Technical Sales Representative Job Description

The Technical Sales Representative position is responsible for troubleshooting, problem solving and continuous improvement associated with all technology supplied to the pulp and paper industry. This technology is utilized to enhance the unit operations associated with energy generation, water treatment, pulping and papermaking processes. In addition, Ashland supplies chemicals and services associated with the functionality and performance of paper. Much of the work will be in a hands-on industrial environment with a combination of project work and technical support activities. This is an entry-level position for field sales. The initial scope of this job is primarily an intensive training period, both classroom and hands-on with some opportunity to assume account service responsibilities.

  • Planning and execution of new applications evaluations.
  • Provide service and technical support for our paper producing customers.
  • Troubleshoot and solve problems for customers.
  • Build strategic relationships with our customers.
  • Work with the sales team to identify new business opportunities.
  • Grow business through new sales.

Requirements

  • Commitment to work safely and provide excellent customer service.
  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Pulp and Paper, Chemistry or equivalent.
  • Prior experience with Pulp and Paper or Heavy Industry is preferred.
  • Ability to work individually and with the team.
  • The candidate must possess excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • The ability to speak English along with excellent interpersonal skills is necessary for this position.

Locations & Openings

Candidates will initially be assigned to a sales team in their local region. As training progresses and the ability to assume greater responsibilities increase, suitable account assignments will be made based on needs. Individuals with flexibility in their residence location are preferred. We anticipate 10-15 openings throughout the US for 2009.
